We’re excited to introduce Exercise Physiology to our services at River Allied Health, with the addition of Accredited Exercise Physiologist (EP), Damien Crettenden, to our team.
As the Riverland’s first full-time, locally based EP, Damien brings extensive experience in personalised assessments, home exercise plans, gym-based programs, and hydrotherapy interventions to support your health and well-being.
What is Exercise Physiology?
Exercise Physiology focuses on how movement and exercise impact the body, using tailored programs to improve fitness, manage health conditions, and support rehabilitation.
Who Can Benefit from Exercise Physiology?
Exercise Physiology is suitable for anyone looking to improve overall health, strength, mobility, balance, and fitness, as well as those managing specific health conditions such as:
✔ Chronic Diseases Lung conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD) or Asthma, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and neuromuscular conditions
✔ Musculoskeletal Conditions Osteoarthritis (OA), osteoporosis, and chronic pain management
✔ Cancer Support EP’s are highly adept at tailoring exercise programs to support cancer patients, whether they are undergoing active treatment or in remission. Discuss with your GP or oncologist if EP would be a good fit for you
✔ Mental Health & Wellbeing Exercise is recommended in the national standards as a frontline intervention for depression management and EP’s are experts in tailoring meaningful, engaging and achievable exercise plans.
Do I Need a Referral?
Private Clients No referral needed—just book directly! Most private health insurers cover EP services depending on your “extra’s” cover.
NDIS Participants EPs support capacity-building goals. No GP referral is required, but medical history is helpful. Discuss with your plan manager or NDIS advisor before booking.
RTWSA (WorkCover) Clients If you have an accepted claim number, you can book directly. Pending claims require referral from a GP or RTWSA case manager.
DVA Clients Exercise therapy is well-supported by DVA, but a GP referral is required.
Medicare CDM Plans Eligible patients can receive up to five rebated allied health visits per calendar year—A GP referral is required.
Aged & Community Care (Country Health SA, Resthaven & Home Care Packages) Speak to your care manager about accessing EP through your package.
